IoP welcomes new Vice-Dean of Education, Professor Susan Lea

The Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) at King’s is delighted to welcome Professor Susan Lea to the role of Vice-Dean (Education).
The Vice-Dean will have responsibility for leading the education agenda and for developing a coherent academic vision for learning and teaching at the IoP which will include undertaking a strategic review of the portfolio of programmes offered, making sure these are delivered effectively and cost-efficiently and attracting the best students worldwide.
Professor Lea joins the IoP from the University of Plymouth where she was Professor of Applied Social Psychology within the School of Applied Psychosocial Sciences and was also the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Professional Placement Learning. During her time at Plymouth, Professor Lea had held the role of Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) as well as Acting Dean for the Faculty of Health and Social Work.
Professor Lea completed Undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Psychology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa while her PhD was undertaken at Loughborough University. Her teaching interests include social psychology, sexual violence, qualitative research methods, teaching, learning and researching higher education.
Professor Lea said: 'I am delighted to be joining the Institute of Psychiatry in this new and exciting role. The substantial changes within the Higher Education sector signal both challenges and opportunities. I look forward to working with my colleagues at the Institute and King’s, in developing a vision for education that builds on the IoP’s international reputation for research excellence to produce an innovative learning environment provided by the best in their field. We will aim to give students a world-class experience that will make our courses the benchmark for others and produce practitioners and researchers who will have significant impact in their field.'
In congratulating her on her successful appointment, Dean and Head of School at the IoP, Shitij Kapur, said: 'I would like to extend a warm welcome to Professor Susan Lea on behalf of everyone at the Institute of Psychiatry.
