27 October 2009
At the start of the academic year Professor Shitij Kapur welcomed over 300 new Postgraduate taught and research students to the IoP at induction sessions held on 28th September and 5th October 2009.
Professor Kapur said 'I am delighted to welcome this year’s intake of students to the Institute. It is a privilege for us to have some of the very brightest students anywhere. Ultimately, what they will take away will be as much from the IoP, as from each other. It is an exciting opportunity for them to join one of the world’s largest and most reputable mental health related postgraduate teaching and research centres where they will be taught by and collaborate with some of the world’s leading figures in mental health science.'
The Institute now teaches approximately 900 postgraduate taught and research students. The IoP is particularly pleased to welcome its international students which reflect the Institute’s global standing as a world leader in mental health research and education. Our overseas students contribute to the scholarly success and cultural richness of the Institute.
Professor Kapur added: 'Teaching by staff with both research and clinical expertise allows students to gain specialist knowledge in topics related to psychiatry, psychology and mental health nursing, enabling them to develop their careers as clinicians, therapists, researchers, service leaders and educators. Coming to the IoP is a chance for them to study alongside some of the most talented students from all over the world.'
The Institute is also pleased to announce its Mental Health Studies programmes which include Mental Health Studies, Mental Health in Learning Disabilities and Organisational Psychiatry & Psychology, which are the largest programmes now taught at the IoP and previously based at Guy’s, have relocated to the Denmark Hill campus.
