Undergraduate success in prestigious translation competition

The Department of German is delighted to announce that two third-year students have won prizes in the prestigious Ernst Jünger Translation Competition, hosted by the University of Bristol. Joe Prestwich (BA German with English) won the Undergraduate Prize and Connie Cramp (BA European Studies) received a special commendation. Ernst Jünger was a highly significant but little-known 20th-century writer and thinker, who published novels, diaries, essays and a body of travel writing; the competition, which involved translating a long passage from one of his travel diaries, attracted over 60 entries from a variety of countries. Joe and Connie will be awarded their prizes at a public ceremony in December.
