German alumnus wins Bithell prize

Nicholas PotterCongratulations to recent alumnus Nicholas Potter, who has been awarded the Alice Emily Bithell Prize for best modern language BA with a German component across all colleges of the University of London.

Nick, who graduated in Summer 2013, not only excelled academically but was also very much a team player in the German Department, serving as President of the German Society in 2010-11 and participating in numerous outreach activities promoting the study of German at regional high schools.

The Alice Emily Bithell prize, established in the memory of a generous benefactor of the then Institute of Germanic Studies, is awarded annually by the Institute of Modern Languages Research at the School of Advanced Study, in recognition of the best performance in German in the University of London’s BA examinations.

This is not the first time Nick’s academic achievements have been recognised in this way; last year he won the Jelf Medal for the Arts and Humanities, given each year by the Principal to those students who have most distinguished themselves during their undergraduate courses.
