German student wins Jelf Medal
The Department of German is absolutely delighted to announce that Nicholas Potter (BA German) has just been awarded the Jelf Medal for the Arts and Humanities – the very highest honour that the College can bestow on one of its students. The students chosen are those who, in the view of the Principal of the College, have most distinguished themselves during their undergraduate course in the College – both by excelling academically and achieving the highest possible grades of their cohort, and by contributing extensively to the wider life of the College. Nicholas was particularly praised for his exceptional exam performances, and his work on the German Play and German Society.
Nicholas received the medal in front of his family and friends at his Graduation Ceremony held at The Barbican, where he also graduated with a first class result, including a distinction in spoken German.
The Jelf Medal was created in honour of Rev Richard Jelf who retired from the role of Principal of the College in 1868 after holding this office for 24 years. The Medal commemorates his services to the College. One Jelf Medal is awarded to a student in each of the Schools of Arts & Humanities, Biomedical and Health Sciences, Law, Nursing and Midwifery, Social Sciences and Public Policy, Medicine, Dentistry and Psychiatry. Two medals are awarded to the School of Physical Sciences and Engineering.
