Modern Language study abroad opportunities

Students studying French language as part of their King's degree have the opportunity to study abroad for their whole third year at one of the below destinations in mainland France and beyond. Please note that if you are on a joint honours programme with another department but are studying French (including Liberal Arts students) you will be considered a Modern Language student for your 3rd year abroad and will follow the Modern Language Destinations for French.
In addition to the options listed above, French & Management students also have the opportunity to study at ESSEC (École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales) and also EDHEC Business School, France.
In addition to the above, students also have the opportunity to work during their year abroad, either as an English Language Assistant or by finding an internship.
French students who are ab initio have a different list of institutions to choose from for their year abroad. Those students can study at one of the below universities in semester one or the full year and complete an internship in semester two. The institutions available for French ab initio students depend on the student's language ability which is assessed with a test organised by the French ab initio academic lead during the first semester of their second year. Those students should discuss their options with their French study abroad tutor ahead of applying.

If you'd like to study at ESSEC (École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales) please make note of the following: For ab initio French & Management students only.
If you'd like to study at the University of Geneva please make note of the following: Regular Faculty of Letters or in the Translation Faculty, with a solid B2.
Students studying German language as part of their King's degree have the opportunity to study abroad for the whole of their third year, at one of six destinations. Students also have the opportunity to work during their year abroad, either as part of the English Language Assistantship Programme or doing an internship.

Hispanic Studies students have the opportunity to study abroad for the whole of their third year at one of several destinations in Europe and Latin America. Please note that if you are on a joint honours programme with another department but are studying Spanish or Portuguese (including Liberal Arts students) you will be considered a Modern Language student for your 3rd year abroad and will follow the Modern Language Destinations for Spanish or Portuguese.
If you'd like to study at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico please make note of the following UNAM require students to have an official language certificate such as SIELE or DELE at B2 level.
Complutense University of Madrid
Students studying abroad at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid will study at the Facultad de Ciencias de la Información starting 2024/2025 Academic Year.
Students also have the opportunity to work during their year abroad, either as part of the English Language Assistantship Programme or doing an internship.
Portuguese & Brazilian Studies students have the opportunity to study abroad for the whole of their third year at one of three destinations in Europe, and four in Latin America. In addition to this, Portuguese & Brazilian Studies students also have the opportunity to apply for an internship.
