Biography

Dr Chahna Gonsalves is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing (Education) at King’s Business School and serves as the Education Lead for the Department of Marketing. She holds a PhD in Marketing, an MA in International Business & Management from the University of Westminster, as well as a BA in International Management and Business Administration with French from the University of Reading. Before transitioning to academia, she worked in management for global brands such as Primark and Benefit Cosmetics.

At King’s College London, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules including Principles of Marketing, Brand Management, and Service Marketing. Her work extends beyond the classroom, with a significant focus on enhancing student assessment literacy, academic language development, and employability, particularly in the age of AI. Her contributions to education have been recognised with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education.

Chahna has led strategic initiatives, including the implementation of assessment rubrics across the MSc International and Digital Marketing programmes, enhancing student outcomes and ensuring accreditation compliance. She co-leads the Rubric Champions project with Dr Jayne Pearson, a cross-faculty initiative gaining national attention for driving institutional change, and collaborates with other institutions on rubric projects. A regular keynote speaker, she has presented at conferences such as the Birmingham Business School Education Conference, London Metropolitan University's teaching forum, and the Bett Show.

Her research focuses on the intersection of marketing education, assessment practices, and the role of emerging technologies such as AI in higher education. She explores how language, transparency, and well-designed assessment rubrics can improve student outcomes, particularly for diverse and international student cohorts. Her work also examines the implications of AI on academic integrity and policy development. Her research has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Service Research and Studies in Higher Education, and her scholarship has been featured in outlets like the Journal of Learning Development in Higher Education and the forthcoming book Generative AI in Education: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. She also co-edited Improving Learning Through Assessment Rubrics: Student Awareness of What and How They Learn, further extending her impact on educational practice and policy.

Her contributions to scholarship have been supported by various funding bodies, including the King’s College London Innovative Education Fund, the Academy of Marketing, and the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA), enhancing the impact of her work on educational practices and policies.

Chahna also sits on the editorial boards of AI in Education and Intelligent Technologies in Education, and chairs the Academy of Marketing Education Special Interest Group, a dynamic forum for marketing educators. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), Associate Fellow of the Staff Education Development Association (AFSEDA), and a Chartered Business Management Educator (CMBE).

She currently sits on the Assessment Strategy Implementation Board, Faculty Education Committee, and the Generative AI: Assessment and Integrity Working Group. Chahna also serves on the Ahead by Bett Advisory Board and previously chaired the Digital Education Steering Group for Staff Development.
