AM Marketing Education SIG Lunchtime Research Seminar Series 5

Enhancing Student Engagement with Feedback: Challenges and Opportunities for Meaningful Learning.

Providing constructive feedback is a critical component of academic practice, with educators dedicating significant time to reviewing students’ work on virtual learning environments (VLEs). However, my research reveals a troubling trend: many students do not engage with the feedback provided. Some prioritize grades over qualitative feedback, while others perceive feedback as irrelevant once they move on to new assignments. In some cases, feedback is deemed unhelpful or difficult to apply. This presentation reflects on these challenges and explores how, in the era of generative AI, innovative solutions might reshape feedback delivery. Could AI provide personalized, on-demand feedback tailored to students’ needs? How can we foster deeper student engagement with feedback processes? The session will also consider formative feedback strategies and alternative assessment models designed to ensure that feedback becomes a valuable tool for learning and improvement in future assignments.
