Please join us for a one-day conference that explores the value of creative higher education (creative HE). We define creative higher education as courses that provide specialised knowledge and degrees that can be considered a pipeline for the future creative and cultural workforce. While this does not preclude that other degrees and subjects contribute to the creative economy, nor that creativity should be understood as being nurtured and developed beyond a narrowly prescribed set of creative subject degrees, we are interested in exploring the multiple forms of value that these subjects offer.
Creative HE subjects and the Arts and Humanities more broadly have faced significant criticism in recent years due to a considered weak position within labour markets and limited economic impact based on market returns on salaries (see Comunian et al 2023 for a detailed discussion). In this one-day conference, we discuss the value of creative-led education beyond the economic and the need for inclusive curriculum design and widening participation.
This event has been organised by Dr Tamsyn Dent, Lecturer in Cultural Work and Professor of Creative Economies, CMCI. It is linked to an internal Creative HE hub funded by the department.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Please register by Thursday 8th June.
