Dr Mabel Machado
Lecturer in Culture, Media and Creative Industries (Cultural Entrepreneurship)
Biography
Dr Mabel Machado joined CMCI in 2022 as a lecturer in Culture, Media and Creative Industries Education, specialising in Cultural Entrepreneurship. She is interested in interdisciplinary research and teaching that focuses on cultural and social change processes.
Previously, Mabel worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Institute for International Management at Loughborough University London on a Trans-Atlantic Platform funded project on social innovation processes in and around multinationals. She was also a teaching fellow and a module leader at the Institute for Media and Creative Industries at Loughborough University London.
Mabel was awarded her PhD by the Institute for Media and Creative Industries, Loughborough University London, with a study on how entrepreneurship contributes to urban change in peripheral post-socialist contexts.
She has a MA in Media and Communications from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA in Journalism from the University of Havana. She lectured for eight years at the School of Communications, University of Havana, and worked for over a decade as a reporter and editor for various Cuban media.
