Professor James Mason

Professor of Membrane Biochemistry

Biography

Having completed his undergraduate and D.Phil training at Oxford University, Dr Mason spent six years abroad, in Germany (FMP Berlin and Goethe University in Frankfurt) and then France (ULP, Strasbourg), before returning to the UK and taking up an academic position at King's College London. The research focus of Dr Mason's group is to combine biophysical methods with systems biology approaches (NMR metabolomics coupled with next generation sequencing) to understand how events at biological membranes influence biological outcomes. This is applied to understanding how antibiotics function, how bacteria respond to these and other environmental challenges and the functional consequences of alterations in lung, gut or vaginal microbiomes.
