Biography
Caitlin Schmid is a Research Fellow at the King’s Global Institute for Women’s Leadership (GIWL) collaborating on the research stream ‘Gender and Data’ and ‘Gender Equality at Work’.
Currently, she is leading the development of the UK Gender Equality Index – the first index to measure and compare women’s and men’s socioeconomic outcomes at the local area level across all four UK nations. In addition, she is leading the delivery of ESRC-funded workshops across the four nations in partnership with the Women’s Budget Group to demonstrate the use and value of the latest census data for gender, spatial and intersectional analysis. Previous work at GIWL has included the project Bridging the gap? An analysis of gender pay gap reporting in six countries, funded by the UN Foundation.
Caitlin completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Manchester, funded by the ESRC with an Advanced Quantitative Methods grant. Her research focused on analysing and improving gender equality indices with a particular interest in measurements of unpaid care.
Her MSc in Sociology: Comparative Organisation and Labour Studies was obtained from the University of Amsterdam and awarded the 2017 National Prize for Best Social Science Master Thesis in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Caitlin holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Zurich.
