Imaging Bites: Unlocking the Elements: Exploring EDS Applications in SEM, TEM, and STEM
New Hunt’s House, Guy’s Campus, London
Join the Imaging Bites Lunch & Learn Seminar Series
This Imaging Bites seminar will explore energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) is a powerful analytical technique capable of revealing the elemental composition of materials. When combined with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM), EDS provides critical insights into materials from micro to atomic scale resolutions. Exploring the fundamentals of EDS and its integration with different electron microscopical techniques and its diverse applications across biology, chemistry, physics, Earth and planetary sciences, and materials science and engineering, we will compare the advantages and limitations of EDS in SEM, TEM, and STEM. We will highlight the EDS capabilities within the Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging (CUI) and discuss how to select the best approach in your research.
Guest Speaker: Shannon Stockdale, Electron Microscopy Technician, Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging (CUI)
Moderator: Alejandra Carbajal, Interim Facility Manager, CUI
Join us for this 30-minute seminar, on the power of EDX, followed by an interactive Q&A and a complimentary lunch - offering a valuable opportunity to network with colleagues and peers in the imaging community. This event is open to all King's students and staff interested in imaging - it is free, but registration is required.
