The 2024 annual lecture at the School of Education, Communication and Society at King's College London will discuss the future of assessment, one of the most challenging topics in higher education in the UK and the world.

We are delighted to announce the speaker this year will be Francisco J. Marmolejo, Higher Education President & Education Advisor at The Qatar Foundation, Doha. Dr Marmolejo is an international educational administrator formerly serving as Lead Tertiary Education Specialist of the World Bank.

A high-level panel of respondents from UK higher education institutions will add their reflections and experiences to the discussion:

  • Professor Christine Harrison, Professor of Science Education, School of Education, Communication and Society, King’s College London.
  • Professor Constant Leung, Professor of Educational Linguistics, School of Education, Communication and Society, King’s College London.
  • Dr Kevin Martin, Centre Manager at Digital Education Futures Initiative (DEFI), University of Cambridge.
  • Professor Sam Smidt, Academic Director of King’s Academy, King’s College London.

The event will be chaired by Liviu Matei, Professor of Higher Education and Public Policy and Head of the School of Education, Communication & Society, King’s College London.

Tea and coffee will be available from 17.30. A drinks reception will follow the event.

About Francisco Marmolejo

Francisco Marmolejo is Higher Education President at Qatar Foundation (QF) in Doha, where he leads QF’s work in support of 8 prestigious universities established at Education City in Doha offering more than 70 academic programs to students from more than 110 countries. During 2012-20, he worked at the World Bank, where he served as the Global Coordinator of Higher Education, based in Washington, DC., and later as Lead Higher Education Specialist for India and South Asia, based in New Delhi.

As part of his activities at the World Bank, he coordinated the internal thematic group on higher education, which helps to facilitate the exchange of ideas among the more than 100 Bank’s staff members and consultants involved in higher education initiatives across the globe.

Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of NAFSA and World Education Services, and also as member of the Academic Board of the Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation (CHEI) at UNICATT in Italy, and of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Internationalisation of Higher Education – Policy and Practice. He is Senior Fellow of NAFSA and Founding Scholar of CHEI-UNICATT. He has received honorary doctorate degrees in Mexico from five Mexican universities including his Alma Mater, the University of San Luis Potosi.
