During this Comparative Literature BA, you’ll study the similarities and differences between literature written in different places, at different times and across different genres. You’ll learn from world-leading academics with expertise in literature in 10 languages across 5 continents and over 2,500 years. You’ll get to explore literature from the modern and ancient worlds of Europe and the Americas, the Middle East and Turkey, South Asia and China, and Africa. An exciting programme of required and optional modules will give you the chance to learn about a unique combination of topics, including African literature in English and French, modern Indian literature and the 18th-century European novel. You’ll also have the opportunity to read other cultural objects, like film, theatre and visual media, and make comparisons across some of the 11 different disciplines in our Faculty. You’ll study texts in English translation, and you’ll be encouraged to develop languages you know already or new linguistic skills so you can read in the original languages where possible.

Ranyechi

I love studying Comparative Literature! It has given me the opportunity to learn about cultures that I may not have encountered otherwise and has given me the chance to continue learning Spanish, a language that I really enjoy studying.
