Our Advanced Computing MSc provides you with the essential knowledge and advanced skills for a successful career in technology. Designed for both computing and non-computing graduates and professionals with a quantitative background, this flexible degree lets you customise your learning to match your interests and career goals. You can choose to specialise in a certain field or combine multiple specialisms to keep your options open.

You’ll get to choose from a broad range of advanced and emerging fields in computer science, AI, and data science, enhanced by the expertise and research of our leading academics. You’ll then tackle a major project, applying your skills to a real-world problem. There is the possibility of doing this with an external company or public sector organisation, allowing you to develop a tech solution to an industry problem. Course essentials

Rooted in the renowned research strengths of the Department of Informatics, this course enables you to study a wide variety of topics in advanced computing while allowing you to specialise through your choice of modules. You will learn advanced practical techniques and implementation skills for solving complex computational problems.

You'll learn from world-class experts in many exciting areas of computer science, including algorithms and data analysis, cyber security and cryptography, neural networks and computer visions, software systems and technology for financial systems, and human-centred computing. You will also become adept at key technical skills, including a thorough grounding in industry standard modern computer languages.

Halfway through your degree, you will tackle a major project, producing an artefact – an original piece of software, code or prototype in response to a research or industry problem. This hands-on experience will allow you to develop essential project management, design, and evaluation skills as you research, build, test, and improve your product.

To gain valuable work experience, there is the potential to partner with a company on your project. You'll join a team of students with varied backgrounds to develop a software solution for one of our external partners in sectors ranging from computing and law to aviation and government.

The course is taught at the King’s College London Strand and Waterloo Campuses, putting you in the heart of London with access to all its academic resources and within easy reach of the social and entertainment attractions of one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. The Department of Informatics is based in Bush House on the Strand Campus.
