Support for students and staff affected by recent events in the UK

A message from The Dean, Reverend Dr Ellen Clark-King

Like many others, I have watched with dismay the recent riots which have taken place in a few British towns and the racism and xenophobia shown by the rioters.

At King’s we know our life is enriched by the many different people and peoples who make up our community, welcoming the invaluable contribution made by those who have immigrated to the UK as well as by those who were born here.

Racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, incitement, and harassment has no place at King’s. Any incidents targeted at you or that you witness, should be reported through our online tool, Report + Support. This can be done anonymously if you feel more comfortable doing that. Reports made through Report + Support are handled through our well-established and robust processes.

Please also know that there is support available for students and staff throughout the year, whenever you are hit hard by events, personal or international, do not feel you have to struggle alone.

Counselling support is available to our students. Students can speak to the King’s Counselling & Mental Health Support Service which offers free and confidential in-person and online support as well as King’s Counselling Online service. Students may also like to connect with their peers through KCLSU.

Talking to our Chaplains can be a real source of comfort. They are there for students and staff of all faiths and none for informal and confidential discussions and are experienced at talking with people who are experiencing grief and anxiety. They can be contacted at chaplaincy@kcl.ac.uk.

The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is also available for staff. The EAP is confidential and free to use.

King’s campuses and residences all have security cover 24/7 and our security staff are on hand to help anyone that would like assistance. The Safezone app can be used to contact our Security team for immediate assistance (download from Google Play or Apple Store and register using your King’s credentials).
