In July, the Faculty of Natural Mathematical & Engineering Sciences runs a work experience week for Year 10 students. Participants spend the week together, exploring the different STEM topics being researched in our Faculty, meeting a wide range of scientists and engineers and completing a group research project.
Programme detail
We will start with a general introduction to King's, before spending time with each of the five departments in our Faculty: Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics. You will get the chance to visit laboratories, talk to scientists and engineers, and get stuck into interactive STEM workshops.
You will then work on a team research project, using different aspects of what you have discovered so far to come up with a creative solution to a real-world problem. The week ends with all groups presenting their work as a research poster in an informal session together with staff from King's College London, your teachers, parents/carers and more.
We hope that this week will give a broad view of the range of STEM careers available and the diversity of people who work in a university like King's. We also hope to highlight the skills needed to study a STEM degree at university, and what this experience could be like.
This is not a residential programme - participants will need to travel to and from the King's College London campus every day. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
How to apply
Applications open in February and close in April. Successful applicants will be notified in May. Application is done via an online form, which will ask a few questions about you, and why you want to take part. You will need to fill out this form with a parent/guardian. An event page will appear below when the new programme is live.
