King's Sport & Wellness Performance Athletes 2024/25

The King’s Sport & Wellness Performance Programme provides elite student-athletes with a support network to help them perform to the highest level possible in their dual-career. Through strength & conditioning, nutrition, physiotherapy, lifestyle and wellbeing support we aim to offer students a world-class environment to improve athletically alongside their world-class education.

We strive to empower all our student-athletes to be the authors of their own stories, express themselves and share their triumphs with the wider university community.

Below are the profiles of the King's Sport & Wellness Performance Athletes 2023/24.

Gold Performance Athletes

Javier Bello

Volleyball

  • Bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games (2022).
  • 1x gold and 3x bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour (2019-2023).
  • 5th at the European Championship (2023).
  • 3x British champion and highest-ranked British player in history.

Emily Hegarty

Rowing

  • Bronze medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics (Women’s 4-). 
  • 7th place finisher at the 2024 Paris Olympics (Women’s 4-).

Silver Performance Athletes

Charlotte Burnett

Hyrox / CrossFit

  • 2023 CrossFit Games - 1st in the UK, 2nd in Europe and 5th Place in the world.
  • 2nd place globally in the CrossFit Open 2024. 
  • 1st place in Europe and the UK in the CrossFit Open 2024.

Ella-May Hards

Duathlon, Running & Cross-country

  • 4th at Castle Combe Sprint Duathlon 2024, qualifying for European Championships 2025. 
  • 5th in AG and 25th Overall at World Duathlon Sprint Championships 2023. 
  • 1st in AG and 16th Overall at European Duathlon Standard Championships 2022..
  • Gold medalist at U23 World Rowing Championships in Canada, setting a new world record for U23 women’s fours. 
  • Winner of U23 pairs category at GB trials in February and April 2024. 
  • Silver medalist in Championship Fours at BUCS 2024.

Joshua Hallett

Rugby Union

  • Senior first team player at Saracens
  • 18 appearances for Saracens
  • Played in over half of our premiership matches 2022/23 (Champions).
  • Played for England at u16 and u18
  • Represented Norway at two World Championships in her class since 2022. 
  • Selected for the Norwegian National Sailing Team in the fall of 2023.

Olamide Sodeke

Rugby Union

  • Rugby Union Player for Saracens and England U18’s.
  • U20 Six Nations Champion 2024 with England U20.
  • U20 World Champion 2024 with England U20. 
  • 11 appearances for England U20. 
  • Professional rugby player with Saracens.

Alexandros Taliotis

Fencing (Epee)

  • 3rd place in BUCS individual
  • Competed in 2024 Olympic Qualifying Games.
  • Greek National Champion.

Crinan Potter

Fencing (Epee)

  • GB Squad Member.
  • 1st Sussex Open (2024).

George Ivanov

Volleyball

  • England Senior Team selection (2024).
  • MVP in international scrimmage series.
  • Superleague League Champion 2023-24.

Georgia Gardner

Fencing

  • 1st National Senior Open (2024).
  • 2nd National Senior Ranking competition (2024).

Hania Hussain

Kabaddi

  • MVP at KCL Kabaddi (2024).
  • England Women’s Team Captain at European Beach Kabaddi Championships (2024).
  • Won MVP Defender of the Tournament.

Imogen King

Athletics

  • 5th BUCS Outdoors 2000m steeplechase (2024).
  • 3rd Loughborough International 3000m steeplechase (2024).
  • 10:39 BMC GP 3000m steeplechase (2024).

Jad Idris

Swimming

  • Multiple English National Championships finals.
  • Qualified for British National Championships.
  • National Club T20 finalist.
  • Plays for Middlesex 1st XI cricket team.
  • Bowling stats: 5/20.

Johnathan Sun

Taekwondo

  • 4x BUCS Gold Medalist (2023-24).
  • 5th at G1 EUSA European University Games.
  • 1st KTAHK International Championship Individual Poomsae (2024).

Jordan Joel

Taekwondo

  • 2nd Degree Black Belt.
  • Bronze at National Taekwondo Championships (2024).
  • Multiple BUCS and international medals.

Kheng Aik Ong

Rowing

  • Top 100 at Head of the River (2024).
  • Selected for Malaysian National Rowing Team.
  • Competed in SEA Rowing Championship (2024).
  • Won BUCS National and Premier South League Trophies (2022-23).
  • 2nd BUCS Premier South League (2021-22, 2023-24).
  • Current M1 captain.

Marcel Powell

Football

  • Playing for the Professional club in the Eastbourne Borough League South.
  • Invited to England U23 Six-a-Side Squad.
  • Signed for Hungerford Town FC.
  • LTA rating of 2.1.
  • Gold and bronze Maccabiah Games (2019).
  • All-CACC Player of the Year.

Rupert Fitzsimmons

Fullbore Rifle

  • 1st BUCS Men’s Fullbore (2024).
  • Represented England against Armed Forces.
  • English NVL Superleague Champions with IBB Polonia.
  • BUCS Beach Volleyball Championship Division Bronze Medalist.
  • Attended student cup finals.
