We study the function of human T cells, with a focus on T cell metabolism to understand how T cells fuel their extraordinary effector capacity.
Upon receiving signals from other cells as well as soluble mediators T cells increase nutrient uptake and change their metabolism to initiate and fuel a successful immune response. This metabolic change is so fundamental that modulating or inhibiting it can increase or abolish T cell function. In order to make use of this in a therapeutic setting, it is vital to get a detailed understanding of the signalling and environmental conditions that drive metabolic remodelling in T cells.
