King's Community Breakfast

Want to meet new people and enjoy a free breakfast? King’s Food are running free community breakfasts for staff and students every Friday at Guy’s, Waterloo and Denmark Hill campuses with support from BE At King’s.

The 'community breakfast' initiative provides a space for the King’s community to come together and meet new people over a free morning meal.

Following on from a successful trial and positive feedback, King's Food is now planning to expand on the project and formally evaluate its impact on the King's community.

Aims of the community breakfast

The project aims to:

  • Engage 400 King’s staff and students every week.
  • Encourage King’s staff and students to meet new people and socialise through its eat-in only policy.
  • Provide support to those who might struggle financially by providing healthy food for free without registration.
  • Increase the sense of belonging amongst our King’s community.

How will the impact of the community breakfast be evaluated?

To assess the impact of the community breakfasts, we will monitor participation numbers and request feedback through a survey.

The survey will assess:

  • General experience at King’s: Measured using the ‘Settling at King’s’ questions.
  • Engagement: Measured with a three-item scale developed by the BE At King’s team to gauge participants' general level of engagement.

The collected data will be analysed to:

  • Evaluate the impact of the breakfasts on participants' overall experience at King’s.
  • Determine if those engaging with the breakfasts are generally highly engaged, and if we are reaching individuals with lower engagement levels.
  • Compare the impact of the breakfasts across different groups (e.g. campus, faculty or directorate).
