Biography
Dr Yu Jin Chung is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Cardiovascular Sciences Section, School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences. Her primary research interest is to understand mechanisms of cardiac ion transport, particularly Na and Ca, how dysregulation of ion transport affects cardiac function and how this may be targeted to treat cardiovascular diseases.
Dr Chung's research career began in cellular hypoxia, studying the Hypoxia Inducible Factor at the University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained a Bachelors and Masters degree. She then pursued a PhD at the University of Oxford, investigating the effects of iron deficiency on cardiac Ca handling and metabolism in a murine model of iron deficiency. Dr Chung joined the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences at King’s 2018. Under the supervision of Professor Michael Shattock, she investigates Na and Na/K ATPase regulation in heart failure in mice and rats.
