Biography

Tuğçe is a Lecturer in Digital Labour and Marketing in the Department of Digital Humanities at King’s College London. Prior to this role, she held teaching and research positions at Maynooth University in Ireland.

She completed her PhD in Media Studies at Maynooth University in 2023 and received the Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR) 2023 Dissertation Award. She holds an MA in Comparative Studies in History and Society from Koç University and a BA in Sociology from Boğaziçi University.

Tuğçe’s research focuses on the profound impact of digital platforms and technologies on the nature of work and labour. She particularly examines the creative digital labour practices of social media creators in relation to platform affordances, regulatory frameworks, and diverse geopolitical contexts.

She also worked on the HEA/Shared Island funded project YouGaMSI (with Prof. Aphra Kerr & Prof. John O’Brennan, Maynooth University and Dr Paul Kitchin, Ulster University) which aimed to assess the exposure of young people to gambling marketing through sport across broadcast and social media on the island of Ireland.

Tuğçe is on the editorial board of Platforms & Society – a new journal from Sage.

Teaching

Tuğçe teaches a variety of subjects related to media, communications, technology, and gender.
