Professor Toby Lawrence
Professor of Inflammation Biology
Biography
Dr Lawrence holds a PhD in Experimental Pathology form the University of London and performed post-doctoral work at the University of California San Diego as a Wellcome Trust International Research Fellow. He has since held faculty positions at The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Imperial College London, Bart’s Cancer Institute at Queen Mary University of London, and King’s College London.
Since 2009, he has been a tenured Research Director (Directuer de recherché) at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and Group Leader at the Centre d’Immunologie Marseille Luminy (CIML) (http://www.ciml.univ-mrs.fr/).
His research interests are in the immunobiology of macrophages and dendritic cells. He lectures part-time on several undergraduate and post-graduate courses including; the immune system in health and disease, molecular immunology and research skills courses.
Research
Inflammation Biology Group
The inflammation biology group studies the impact of inflammation in cancer progression with a particular focus on the biology of macrophages and dendritic cells.
Spatial Biology Network
The Spatial Biology Network is a cross-faculty research interest group that brings together researchers from various disciplines, ranging from technology development and molecular biology, to bioinformatics and clinical translational research, to explore the complexity of spatial biology.
