Biography

Tahereh Zargar is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Engineering at King’s College London, starting in 2023. She received a competitive NMES Faculty full scholarship from King’s College for her PhD study. Currently, her research focuses on manufacturing 2D materials for electronic devices under supervision of Dr Tayebeh Mousavi.

She has two MSc degrees from Graduate Institute of Ferrous and Energy Materials Technology at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea in 2021 and Isfahan University of Technology, Iran in 2016 on Materials engineering and two years of research experience at POSTECH before starting her PhD at King’s.

Through her MSc studies and research work, she has published more than 10 journal articles and built up strong research skills. Her research mainly included materials fabrication and characterization, coupled with modeling and simulation. She has experience in exploring the connection between materials' microstructures and their properties, across various scales from micro to nano materials.

Research Interests

  • Fabrication and characterization of materials
  • 2D materials for electronic devices
  • Simulation of material structure and properties (band gap structure of electronic materials)

Thesis Title

Title Defect engineering of 2D materials for neuromorphic computing applications

Abstract: This research aims to explore the potential of Two-Dimensional Materials (2DMs) for enhancing electronic systems due to their unique properties such as high surface-to-volume ratio, tunable electronic properties, and high mechanical flexibility. However, there are several challenges that need to be addressed to optimize the performance of 2DMs in electronic systems. One of challenges is the integration of 2DMs with other materials and devices. The 2DMs have different mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties than traditional materials, which can lead to compatibility issues. Therefore, it is important to have a comprehensive understanding of the layer-dependent properties of 2DMs and optimizing production process via establishment of refined growth conditions, defect control methods, identification of suitable dopants, and etc. to improve electronic systems by addressing the critical demands for higher performance and lower power consumption.
