Stephen McShane
Lecturer in Maths for Social Science Education and Module Leader
Biography
Stephen holds an MSc in Education and Training Management (Leadership) from Dublin City University, completed in 2020. His master's research focused on enhancing awareness and support for minority groups in education. He also earned a BSc in Science Education from Dublin City University in 2011, with a research emphasis on math' education. Additionally, Stephen is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Before joining King’s Foundations, Stephen was a Senior Lecturer and module leader at Arden University, where he taught a range of modules, including numeracy, academic skills, social justice, and technology in organisations. His role as a Senior Lecturer was centered on improving student progression. Prior to his career in HE, Stephen spent ten years teaching maths, physics, and biology in secondary schools across Ireland and the UK.
Stephen’s research interests focus on enhancing teacher training and promoting inclusive practices in education. He has published an article on improving teachers’ knowledge and awareness of LGBT+ issues in schools and is eager to expand his work in this area. Beyond his academic interests, Stephen can usually be found spoiling his cat, Jude, and as a Swiftie, he is also a fan of Taylor Swift-themed spin classes.
