Biography

Dr Silia Vitoratou joined King’s on 2013 and is currently a Reader in Psychometrics and Measurement (since 2024). Silia holds a BSc degree in Mathematics (University of Crete, Mathematics department), an MSc degree in Biostatistics with a thesis in applied psychometrics (National and Kapodestrian University of Athens-Medical School and Mathematics Department), and a PhD in Bayesian model comparison for IRT models (Athens University of Economics and Business-Department of Statistics).

Dr Vitoratou is an expert in Psychometrics and she leads the Psychometrics and Measurement lab in the Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics which has a plethora of collaborations within the IoPPN and with other institutions.

She also leads research in misophonia.

Research interests

  • Applied research: Psychometrics (IRT, EFA, CFE, SEM); Biostatistics.
  • Methodological research: Latent variable models; Bayesian model comparison & MCMC; Thermodynamics.
  • Applications: projects related to Misophonia and Autism. 

Teaching

Dr Vitoratou teaches three modules in MSc Programmes:

  • Latent variable modelling (term 2, MSc in Applied Statistical Modelling & Health Informatics)
  • Introduction to Research Methods (term 1, MSc of Affective Disorders, MSc in Clinical Neuroscience).
  • Introduction to Psychometrics (term 2, MSc of Affective Disorders).

She also teaches seminars in applied psychometrics to the DClinPsy programme and is supervising more than five MSc and BSc research projects every year.

Expertise and public engagement

Dr Vitoratou is a member of the Psychometric Society. She is also the creator and project manager of the solidarity education network #tutorpool.
