Dr Salvatore Di Novo

Lecturer in Culture, Media & Creative Industries (Economics)

Biography

Salvatore is an applied economist, with a background in industrial and public economics, and quantitative methods.

He joined the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King's in July 2023 from Newcastle University Business School, where he was a Postdoctoral researcher and part of the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (PEC). His research on the creative and cultural sector has focused on internationalisation, access to finance and innovation in the creative industries, as well as investigating cultural consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is currently investigating the role of funding to the arts & culture, with a focus on the socioeconomic implications and he is also interested in the political economy aspects associated with culture and creativity. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Teaching

Salvatore teaches on the BA in Culture, Media & Creative Industries and the MA Cultural & Creative Industries, on topics related to cultural economics and cultural policy.

Expertise and Public Engagement

Salvatore has presented and participated at various field-specific and interdisciplinary conferences and workshops, like the Creative Fuse Conference or the ACEI International Conference on Cultural Economics, on topics including cultural consumption and public funding to the arts and culture. His work has received public coverage in media outlets like ArtsProfessional, What Next?, Economists Talk Art, BBC Front Row.

He is part of the PEC Research Fellows Network.
