Biography
Roger Taylor chaired the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation which advised the UK Government on regulatory strategy with regard to AI. He has worked in regulation in healthcare and education as Chair of Ofqual and National Professional Adviser on Intelligence at the CQC.
He was a founder of Dr Foster, a pioneering health analytics company which campaigned for greater transparency and patient empowerment in the NHS. He has written widely on subjects of transparency, agency in relation to public services, and reform of the way data is controlled by governments and corporations.
Research interests
- New models of control over data to allow contestability of the impact and benefits of AI and algorithmic systems
- Greater empowerment for individuals in relation to government services and data driven systems
- The use of AI for more personalised and effective public services
- Greater public engagement in the politics of data ownership and control
