Biography
Tell us about your career journey from being a student at King's to being in your current role
I moved from Kolkata, India, to London to study Economics and Management at King's Business School. After graduating, I began my professional journey as a Graduate Project Manager at AtkinsRéalis. My first project involved working as an Assistant Project Manager for Sizewell C, within their Earthwork and Enabling Work wing. In this role, I navigate the intricate details of financing, resourcing, procurement, and project management. Sizewell C is among the first of a new generation of nuclear plants that could play a major role in decarbonising the UK’s energy sector.
What's the one thing you enjoy most about your current role?
I find the multifaceted nature of project management both challenging and incredibly interesting. There’s a myriad of things going on at the same time, making it a learning experience like no other. From attending design meetings to handling financial and contractual matters, the diversity of tasks makes each day exciting. Additionally, knowing that the work I do feeds into a project with great positive societal and environmental impacts makes it extremely fulfilling.
Stepping into a nuclear project was a major benchmark and a significant shift from what I studied at university. The project's historical significance in the UK's energy sector, coupled with its potential to replace millions of tonnes of CO2, further fuelled my motivation.
How did your time at King's help with your career journey?
The King’s Business School Student Experience team gave me my first employment opportunity in the UK. I started as a Receptionist, then worked as a Student Advisor, and eventually became a Student Experience Administrator (Education and Attainment). Interacting with a diverse cohort of students from such various backgrounds, really broadened my perspectives and made me more adaptable.
In my studies, engaging with real-world challenges through internships and case studies really honed my problem-solving abilities and prepared me for the dynamic demands of the business world. At King’s, it doesn’t matter how old you are or how much experience you have - your voice is heard and valued. Being given the chance to contribute to decision-making processes instilled a strong sense of confidence that continues to guide me in my career today.
What is the best piece of advice you have for current and future King's Business School students on achieving success in their careers?
Be proactive. Reach out to people, seek help, and don't be embarrassed to ask for opportunities.
