Biography

Professor Philippa Francis-West has an extensive and very successful track record in Developmental Biology with a focus on craniofacial  development.

Current research interests include the role of the Fat4-Dchs1-PCP-Hippo  pathway during vertebrate development and how mechanical forces control craniofacial cell differentiation.

Prof Francis-West is also a co-author of a leading Embryology textbook, Larsen’s Human Embryology.

    Research

    Francis-West Lab

The Francis-West lab aims to understand mechanisms of skeletal development focusing on the Dchs1-Fat4 signalling pathway, which regulates cell differentiation and morphogenesis.

    Well-defined gels
Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology

Our research goes beyond the mouth. If we understand how the entire face and head forms, we can repair damage and regenerate cells. If we unravel the causes of diseases, we can treat patients successfully. If we solve these problems, our discoveries will improve health worldwide.
