Biography
My name is Mark and I’m a Maplethorpe Fellow working in the lab of Prof. Rahman here at King’s. I grew up in Basingstoke, Hampshire and did my first degree (MSci) in Biology and Chemistry at Durham University. My PhD studies were focused on the development of next generation, efflux-resistant fluoroquinolone antibiotic compounds using the Rahman group’s patented antibiotic resistance breaker (ARB) technology that was developed in-project.
As a fellow, my current research project is heavily tied to the theme of post-COVID-19 pandemic preparedness and aims to develop new anticoronaviral drugs targeting the envelope (E) protein. In my spare time I’m a keen skier and also enjoy bouldering at my local climbing centre.
