Biography
Laila's role as Teacher Development co-Lead is to recruit, support and deliver training events for KUMEC's network of GP tutors. Events include the King's Introduction to Teacher Training course, workshops and the biannual KUMEC conference. She works closely with the MBBS S2Y2 GP longitudinal placement team, supporting tutors and practices who deliver the programme. Laila also leads the SPIN (Salaried Portfolio Innovation Scheme) programme within KUMEC, supporting newly qualified GPs to embark on careers in medical education.
She has interests in self-regulated learning, teaching through remote consulting, integrating cultural competency into the curriculum, and 'assessment' - she is currently a member of the Medical Licensing Assessment, Applied Knowledge Test item writing group. She has achieved her MSc in Health Professions Education, where she conducted research on the factors affecting medical students' self-regulated learning on clinical placements. She has also recently become a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
