Biography
I am a research associate working on a genetic skin condition known as recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) also known as the 'Butterfly Disease' owning to the skin fragility of affected patients. Mutations in COL7A1 which in turn results in an absence or dysfunctional type VII collagen (C7) protein that holds the dermis and epidermis layer of the skin has been identified as the underlying cause of this condition. The project focuses to address the unmet needs of RDEB therapy by utilizing a patient-friendly gene therapy delivery method to RDEB patients in order to restore C7 protein and improve wound healing in these patients.
