Biography

Kate Thornton is Head of Technical Services for the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, King’s College London. Kate leads the strategic planning and delivery of the Faculty’s technical operations supporting education and research activities and provides leadership and strategic direction for all technical services staff within the Faculty across the Guy’s, St Thomas, Waterloo, and Denmark Hill campuses. Kate’s areas of responsibility include: resource management (space, workforce planning and finance); health and safety governance, compliance and assurance; research and education technical support; research infrastructure and facilities; asset management; capital planning estates strategy.

Kate is passionate about technical staff development and is committed to embedding the values of the Technician Commitment within the workplace. She is strategic lead for technical career development in the Faculty and responsible for the delivery of the technician commitment action plan, which is underpinned by the King’s Technician Commitment Kate has 20 years of Laboratory Management experience in the UK Higher Education Sector and has previously worked at Imperial, UCL and QMUL.
