Biography
Karl Peter Giese is Professor of Neurobiology of Mental Health and Co-Head of Department, Basic & Clinical Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King's College London.
I am investigating memory mechanisms in health and disease and currently my research addresses:
- The molecular and cellular basis of memory storage in young and old age.
- Mechanisms of synaptic dysregulation in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.
- Modelling intellectual disability in mice.
I have published over 100 publications, edited two books on memory mechanisms, and organised several international symposia on molecular and cellular memory processes. My most widely recognised work is on the role of calcium/calmodulin-dependent kinase II in learning and memory.
Please see my Research Staff Profile for more detail.
Key Publications:
- Ghosh et al (2020). Alzheimer's disease-related dysregulation of mRNA translation causes key pathological features with ageing. Transl. Psychiatry
- Aziz et al. (2019). Multi-input synapses, but not LTP-strengthened synapses, correlate with hippocampal memory storage in aged mice. Curr. Biol.
