Biography
Julian is an adult nurse, with a clinical career spanning secondary and primary care, including coronary care, medical admissions, community nursing (District Nursing) and subsequently as a community cardiac liaison nurse in the London Borough of Haringey. He was the senior research nurse of the Leicester site on the British Heart Foundation Family Heart Study. During that time, he undertook a mixed-method MPhil investigating the perception of risk of people whose siblings had experienced a premature heart attack.
Julian has extensive experience within higher education, including inter-professional education, Module and Programme Leadership, curriculum development and transnational education. He served as Associate Head of School, at De Montfort University, where his portfolio included student experience and quality in the curriculum. His PhD (Pathways to the field: an exploration of the capital and habitus of people undertaking different routes into nursing utilising Bourdieu’s theory of practice), was a phenomenological study of motivations to become a nurse and how people are socialisation into the profession.
Prior to joining King’s College London, he was leading simulated practice learning at Coventry University for two years.
Teaching
Julian is module leader for 7KANP120 (Clinical Leadership) and programme lead for a new MSc in healthcare leadership being develop, with the support of King’s Business School.
