Biography

Joana Leitão is the Senior Outreach Officer in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES), King’s College London. In this role, she supports and facilitates outreach programmes across the faculty.

Prior to King’s, Joana worked as a researcher investigating brain function for over a decade. This was followed by a role as a Communications and Engagement Officer at the Department of Human Neuroimaging at UCL, where she supported engagement with research projects. In parallel, she worked as a Widening Participation Tutor at the University of Glasgow. Along the way, she participated in multiple outreach activities on a volunteering basis.

Joana holds a BSc in Applied Mathematics and Computation and a MSc in Biomedical Engineering both from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal, as well as a PhD in Cognitive Neuroimaging from the International Max Planck Research School, Tübingen, Germany.

Responsibilities:

  • Support in the delivery of outreach events and programmes
  • Develop and deliver outreach activities, specifically in Engineering and Computer Science
  • Build networks with academics and professional services
  • Help with event planning and promotion of outreach events
  • Support evaluation of outreach events and programmes
