Biography
Jana Konle is a PhD Candidate in Applied Public Policy at the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership, researching the quality of the political representation of care-experienced young adult women in the UK Criminal Justice System. The population of interest experiences multi-dimensional structural inequality, exemplifying the need for an intersectional perspective on the study of representation. Through her PhD as part of the QUALREP project, Jana aims to shine light on how these young women perceive and expect to be represented politically, the extent to which these expectations are realised in practice and the criteria for a deliberative democratic design which takes diverse women’s needs into account. These issues relate to fundamental questions about fairness and democratic legitimacy. Jana holds a BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from King’s College London and an MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford.
