Biography
James Griffiths attained his BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Leeds in 2014 before undertaking his PhD in the lab of Dr Selinda Orr at Cardiff University. Here, he investigated host-pathogen interactions that orchestrate anti-fungal immunity. He was particularly interested in the role of C-type Lectin-like receptors during Aspergillus and Candida infection.
James received his PhD in 2018 and completed a short post-doctoral position in the Orr lab before joining Professor Julian Naglik’s group at King’s College London. James continues to investigate host-pathogen immunity with a primary focus on using in vitro, in vivo and clinical samples to model mucosal barrier responses to pathogenic fungi.
Research
Centre for Host-Microbiome Interactions
Millions of microorganisms live in and on our bodies forming microbiomes on different surfaces. Researchers in the Centre for Host Microbiome Interactions study our relationship with these bacteria and fungi in health or in oral and systemic diseases such as periodontitis, candidiasis, oral cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
Naglik Lab
The Naglik Lab employs molecular, cellular, immunological, biophysical and structural biology to investigate host-fungal interactions.
