Isabel Fernandez-Moreno

Social Mobility Community Organiser

Biography

Isabel is the Social Mobility Community Organiser within the King’s Social Mobility & Widening Participation Department (SMWP), responsible for leading initiatives and partnerships that develop leadership among parents and young people and address social justice issues through training, education, and advocacy.

Since joining King’s in 2022, she has led the development of Be Well Schools, a mental wellbeing project in partnership with Citizens UK, South London Listens and South London & Maudsley NHS Trust that supports local schools in Southwark and Lambeth to destigmatise mental ill-health by offering support and providing a place where young people, parents/guardians and school staff can speak about their mental health and take action to improve health care services. Isabel leads in-house community organising training for SMWP and WP Champions across the university, developing a relational culture within the institution, and empowering staff to develop the leadership of young people and their supporters through community organising teaching and practice. She also co-leads the award-winning Empoderando Familias parent group in partnership with Citizens UK to train Latin American parents as higher education experts and support them to win change on issues of social justice and educational inequality.
