Biography
Gideon Johnson is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Adult Nursing at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery, and Palliative Care, King’s College London. With over a decade of clinical experience spanning three continents, Gideon has served as a senior nurse leader, practice educator, and senior specialist nurse clinician specialising in trauma and critical care. He holds active nursing licences in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His career exemplifies a profound dedication to advancing nursing practice, improving patient outcomes, and serving humanity.
Gideon completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in critical care and brain dysfunction, where he developed a pioneering Voice Reorientation Programme for delirium management in adult Intensive Care Units (ICUs) using mixed-methods research. His academic achievements also include an advanced master’s degree in Nursing and three postgraduate diplomas, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence.
Currently, Gideon leads the Adult Nursing 2 module at King’s College London, contributing to developing the next generation of nursing professionals. His educational leadership and research expertise are complemented by his role as Social Media Associate Editor for Nursing in Critical Care.
Gideon is spearheading a new project to co-design and establish a Critical Illness Brain Dysfunction Survivorship Plus (CIBS+) programme in the United Kingdom. This initiative aims to provide sustainable support for ICU survivors and their families, address gaps in care, and promote recovery, with a focus on enhancing survivorship and quality of life following critical illness.
Recognised for his academic and humanitarian contributions, Gideon has received numerous accolades, including the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Peace Ambassador title, the Citizen Scholar Award, and the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and a trans ally, Gideon actively champions diversity, multiculturalism, and initiatives addressing health and social inequities. His unwavering dedication to these causes is deeply rooted in his professional ethos and personal values.
