Biography

Elena Nikiphorou is a clinical academic in Rheumatology. She is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Kings’ College Hospital and Reader in Rheumatology and Medical Education within the School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences and the Centre for Education at King’s College London. Her clinical and research focus is in inflammatory arthritis, multi-morbidity and long-term outcomes of disease. She has an MD (Res) in Rheumatoid Arthritis (University College London) and a PhD in Spondyloarthritis (Leiden University, The Netherlands). She works closely with patient research partners (PRPs) nationally and internationally. She has been the recipient of multiple national and international awards and competitive roles, including the Chair of the largest network of young academic and clinical rheumatologists in Europe (EMEUNET, Emerging EULAR Network) and President of the Rheumatology & Rehabilitation section of the Royal Society of Medicine.

She leads an international consortium on syndemics in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases and is a member of various societies and interest groups, including the international Equity Special Interest Group and the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) Advocacy group. She has been involved as a methodologist and convenor in the development of several international recommendations, including on the management of Difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis, axial Spondyloarthritis and self-management strategies in inflammatory arthritis.

Within the KCL medical school, she has been the Portfolio Assessment Lead for the MBBS and currently the Director of Student Support.
