Biography
I am a Research Fellow in the laboratory of Steven Sacks, with whom I completed my PhD. I have been involved in complement research for almost 25 years now, with a focus on the kidney. The kidney has the ability to produce a variety of complement components, providing the kidney unique opportunities to respond rapidly to inflammatory stimuli. We have been able to harness this facet of the renal environment to develop tailor-made therapeutic strategies aimed at transiently curtailing local complement production. As a consequence, local renal inflammation can be significantly dampened without affecting peripheral anti-inflammatory effector mechanisms of the complement system.
