Biography
Dr. Andrada Ianuş is a Lecturer in Healthcare Engineering at the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London. Her research focuses on advanced MRI techniques for mapping tissue microstructure, with applications in both preclinical and clinical settings.
Dr. Ianuş earned her BSc in Physics from Jacobs University Bremen, Germany, in 2011. She then joint the Doctoral Training Program in Medical and Biomedical Imaging at University College London, UK, where she graduated the MRes with distinction in 2012 and completed her PhD in 2016. Her thesis, entitled "Advanced Diffusion MRI for Microstructure Imaging: Theoretical Developments," laid the foundation for her future research endeavors in this field.
From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Ianuş held a postdoctoral position at UCL after being awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize fellowship, where she contributed to significant advancements in biomedical imaging techniques and the experimental implementation of her previous theoretical results. In 2019, she joined Champalimaud Foundation as a Research Fellow and her main research focused on studying brain microstructural alterations during the development of Alzheimer's disease, a research line for which she won prestigeous fellowships, namely the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship and the La Caixa Junior Leader Fellowship, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the field.
In recent years, Dr. Ianuş expanded her research to explore the benefits of advanced MRI in cancer imaging, especially for informaing decision making in staging and restaging rectal cancer. This research line is supported through Protuguese and European research grants, specifically FCT RESTART and the Transforming Health and Care Systems award. Dr. Ianuş has been a Lecturer at King’s College London since 2024, where she continues to drive innovation in imaging technologies.
She has played an active role in the academic community, co-supervising PhD and master’s students and serving as an academic tutor. Dr. Ianuş has organized international workshops and symposia for the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and is serving as the Vice-Chair of the ISMRM Iberian Chapter since 2024.
Dr. Ianuş is committed to advancing the field of biomedical imaging and fostering the next generation of scientists through her dedicated mentorship and outreach activities.
