Professor Louise Rose awarded an MBE in New Year Honours

Professor Louise Rose was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to the NHS during COVID-19. Professor Rose is a Professor of Critical Care Nursing and Head of the Applied Technologies for Clinical Care Division within the Faculty. 

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Rose set up the Life Lines project in March 2020 with Dr Joel Meyer. Life Lines created a secure virtual visiting platform for families whose loved ones were in intensive care units. Dr Meyer, an intensive care consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, was also made an MBE in the New Year Honours List.

King's at forefront for embedding sustainability in nursing and midwifery education

We were awarded established Beacon Site Status by the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare for embedding sustainability principles in its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King's is the first in the UK Higher Education sector for nursing and midwifery to receive this esteemed accreditation.

King's welcomes The Princess Royal to campus

The Princess Royal, in her role as Chancellor of the University of London, met researchers, clinicians and patients at the Cicely Saunders Institute to understand how King’s research is improving people’s experience of life limiting conditions, death and dying.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness met with colleagues whose research and clinical tools enable patients to die in places where they wish – most often at home, and to support those important to them, such as families.

QS ranking 2023

Nursing at King's ranked #2 in the world for fifth year in a row

King’s continues to be home to the world’s second highest ranked nursing faculty, according to the 2022 installment of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The QS World University rankings by Subject, is an extensive overview of international higher education performance, by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds. For the subject of Nursing, 170 institutions from 29 locations were ranked across five broad disciplinary areas.

Children experiencing end-of-life care have spiritual concerns

Researchers found that many children with life-limiting conditions had questions and concerns related to spirituality, varying from a desire to connect with religion and leaving a legacy, to asking why they had these conditions.

The study, published in Palliative Medicine, examined interviews of over 100 children, family members and healthcare professionals across England and Northern Ireland.
