Applications open for Charles Wallace India Trust Visiting Fellowship

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Global Cultures Institute is delighted to announce the call for applications to the King’s – Charles Wallace India Trust Visiting Fellowship 2025-26.

Awarded by the Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) and King's, one biennial award will be made to an early to mid-career India-based scholar.

The Visiting Fellowship is restricted to the fields of Arts, Heritage, and the Humanities. Preference will be given to those who have had no prior experience of conducting research outside India.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants to the CWIT Visiting Fellowship should have completed their PhD and have been in full-time employment at a university or equivalent research institution in India. They should be Indian nationals and residing in India at the time of application. The fellowship cannot be held in conjunction with any other award. Applicants must state if they are awaiting results of other grant applications. Candidates who have received a grant from CWIT in the past 5 years are not eligible to apply.

Details of the award

We currently envisage that the selected fellow will spend three months at King’s College London from the end of April 2026 onwards. The Fellowship will include £700 towards return airfare and £1,600 per month as living expenses.

It is the responsibility of candidates to apply for and pay for their UK visa and they will need to arrange their own accommodation with guidance from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

The CWIT Fellow will be provided a working space in the Faculty/Global Cultures Institute, and will have access to standard library, internet, and office resources as other members of the faculty.

Responsibilities

The Fellowship is awarded towards developing the candidate’s research. The CWIT Fellow will be expected to contribute to the vibrant research environment at the Faculty and the Global Cultures Institute and present a seminar. They will also be encouraged to develop research collaborations with the faculty across the arts and humanities.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

(i) CV

(ii) Research proposal (up to 3000 words)

(iii) Statement about their plan of work during the Fellowship and why King’s Global Cultures Institute is best suited for their proposed research

(iv) One writing sample (published or unpublished)

(v) Two letters of recommendation*

The last date for the receipt of applications is 7 May 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

* It is the responsibility of the candidates to ensure that the referees send their letters by the last date to the email address below.

Announcement of Award

Shortlisted candidates may be interviewed via Zoom or Skype in June 2025. All candidates will be informed about the final result via email.
