Supporting junior doctors in the Horn of Africa
Every Sunday, an NHS doctor, nurse or health professional sits at home, opens their laptop and connects to a website called MedicineAfrica.
On the other end are students at three of Somaliland’s best universities. Typically, five courses are run each Sunday, delivered by NHS volunteers to student doctors and nurses. Somaliland students discuss recent patient cases from their hospital placements with experts in the field, giving them the space to discuss and thrive in their profession.
One of the students, Hassan Ali, said that the online tutorials were valuable because they were interactive, and senior professional doctors from the NHS were able to teach students how to interpret the diagnostic machines.
