Professor Matthew Hotopf CBE, Executive Dean at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, opened the night by praising Professor Wingate's many talents as a researcher, science communicator and educator.

Professor Richard Wingate is a Professor of Developmental Neurobiology at the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology and the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders. His research addresses how neurons' identities and locations in the brain are genetically specified in development and evolution.

Professor Wingate's passion for science, arts and philosophy results in his unique combined approach to education and science communication. He is also the editor-in-chief for Brain Facts, an editorially-independent source of brain and nervous system information presented by the Society for Neuroscience. He has written two books about the brain.

Dr Stephen Webster, Senior Lecturer in Science Communication at the Imperial College London, closed the evening by complimenting Professor Wingate for his devotion to science and referring to his latest books as proof of this passion.

Thank you to all who have attended my lecture. It was wonderful that I could share my stories with everyone and reflect on my journey here. My career has been shaped by fantastic interactions with a wonderful community of researchers, teachers, students and professional services at King's"
