Professor Mike Curtis recipient of the 2021 IADR William J. Giles Award

Professor Curtis was presented with the William J. Giles Award in Biological Research by the International Association for Dental Research.

Today the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced the 2021 recipients of the William J. Giles Awards for the best papers published in the Journal of Dental Research (JDR). Along with his co-authors, Professor Mike Curtis, Executive Dean of the King’s College London Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences was confirmed a winner of the award in the Biological Research category.

The paper recognised by the award, “Horizontal and Vertical Transfer of Oral Microbial Dysbiosis and Periodontal Disease,” was published in the JDR and was a collaboration from authors M.A. Payne (QMUL), A. Hashim (King Faisal University), A. Alsam (QMUL), S. Joseph (King’s College London), J. Aduse-Opoku (King’s College London), W.G. Wade (King’s College London) and M.A. Curtis (King’s College London). The authors were recognised during the opening ceremonies video of the virtual 2021 IADR General Session.

The award is named for William J. Gies, the founder of the Journal of Dental Research. The awards are supported by J. Morita Corporation and consist of $1,000 USD and a plaque.
